About

Who am I?

My name is Fiona Brathwaite. I have been a diagnostic radiographer for almost 20 years specialising in MRI and having worked exclusively in the NHS.

A lot has changed in that time. Working hours, role development, technology and both staff and patients’ expectations.

Radiographer’s aspirations and what they want and expect from their work has also changed a lot!

Over the last two years I have taken a break from the profession.

During that time I have developed a business, unrelated to radiography but this process has opened my mind and helped me to think differently.

My mission is to bring those insights into the healthcare space

  • to support my peers
  • to improve services and patient experiences.
  • to expand and grow “Beyond the Light Box”

Why am I writing this blog?

Rarely do we hear from radiographers. We are a profession that exists and works in the shadows. So little is known about us that others might imagine we perform “dark arts.”

And that is not an unreasonable position because radiographers often live in the basements and secluded areas of hospitals and health centres.

We also rarely see ourselves in the public eye.

Only once have I seen a hospital drama in which a radiographer had actual lines, instead of aimlessly wandering past the main protagonists with a mobile machine.

I can’t even remember the name of the television series…..

So this blog is a way to give some insights into how radiographers think, discussion and solutions about shared issues and other radiography related stuff.

What is important to me?

  • I am very passionate about improving others and self improvement, service improvement, growth and promoting that in all spaces.
  • Pushing boundaries and not getting comfortable,
  • Working with energetic people
  • Inspiring others
  • Thinking and acting with purpose and intent
